We have a pretty amazing team here at Spark.Orange, so it’s only natural to want to highlight our people! And, what better way is there for you to learn more about who we are and what we do? For this installment in our #SparkSquad series, I sat down with Pat Fallon, Program Manager at Spark.Orange.
First things first: let’s talk about how you landed at Spark.Orange.
I met Derek (one of the managing partners) through a mutual friend while Spark.Orange was just beginning and still located at the Tech Garden in Syracuse. Over the years, Derek and I would talk business and when Spark.Orange started growing, Derek started recruiting me for various roles. Being a licensed engineer, it was hard to envision going to a company that customizes software. About a year ago, he approached me with the Program Manager position and I felt like it was a role where I could utilize my analytical skill set to benefit the company, so I decided to make the jump. It’s been a great time so far and l am looking forward to our future as a company.
What are you trying to accomplish at Spark.Orange?
My goal is really just to help the company grow in any capacity I can. To me, that includes helping the company implement more efficient processes, helping win new work when I can, and helping create a culture that drives our team to succeed and be happy here.
What advice would you give to someone that’s hoping to work at Spark.Orange?
Be willing to step outside of your comfort zone and take charge of your career. At Spark.Orange, we don’t want to pigeonhole you. You’ll be hired with a primary role in mind, but as we continue to grow, many people on the team wear multiple hats, and you will too. It’s a great way to gain experience and keep things interesting from day to day.
Now, onto some more fun, personal (and random) things:
What’s your favorite place in Syracuse?
Ohhhh, there’s a few!
Favorite food/wings/cheap beer: Blarney Stone
Favorite cocktails: York
Favorite location: Onondaga Lake Park/Amphitheater (Technically outside of Syracuse, but just 5 minutes outside of the city)
What 3 words best describe you?
I’m going to have to go with analytical, friendly, and motivated.
Do you have a favorite quote or life motto?
My Dad always used to tell me that you couldn’t control everything in life, so control the things that you can control and let the other stuff go. That’s probably the closest thing to a life motto that I try follow.
As a newlywed, can you share your favorite moment(s) from your wedding day?
Outside of seeing my wife for the first time that day, just the realization that I knew everyone there, and being able to share such a happy day in my life with so many friends and family. Also, there was a trebuchet – that was pretty awesome.
Tell us something interesting that most people don’t know about you.
Real estate investment is a hobby that I enjoy. I owned two multifamily properties but recently sold one as I look for other investment opportunities.
Pat can be found sitting by the window of our Syracuse office, where he is the first one in every morning.
